#ElPoderdelArteExpo | As part of the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the Spanish Constitution, the Museo Reina Sofía, the Cortes Generales and Acción Cultural Española (AC/E) are organising this exhibition of holdings from the MNCARS’s collection in two venues, the Congress and Senate buildings. relating to the main themes will be held in connection with the exhibition
The part of the exhibition on view in the lower house focuses on the Transition period and features works by Spanish artists who explored themes such as power, freedom, democracy, memory and history. They include Cristina Iglesias, Concha Jerez, Antoni Muntadas, Juan Muñoz and Esther Ferrer, to name just a few.
The display in the Senate shows the evolution of the visual arts in Spain over the past 40 years through the creations of Elena Asins, Patricia Gadea, Alberto García Alix, Luis Gordillo and Juan Muñoz, among many others.

In connection with these shows, from 5 December 2018 to 25 November 2019, the exhibition Poéticas de la democracia. Imágenes y contraimágenes de la Transición /The Poetics of Democracy. Images and Counter-Images from the Spanish Transition will be on view at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía. It sets out to highlight the artistic experiences excluded from the institutional discourse of Spanish art history of the 1970s.
