The show is organized by the Institut Kunst HGK FHNW and curated by Chus Martínez with additional support by Acción Cultural Española.
How many horizons are there for us? Imagine: the whole surface of all the seas, oceans, rivers and lakes that cover the earth represent a single horizon. The water line marks a limit between everything that is above and everything that lives below. Water obliges us, as well, to reach a balance, to permanently find a relation between our body and all the materials we float on. For Der TANK, Spanish artist Teresa Solar presents a new group of sculptures dealing with animals, images, mythologies, and elements that share a relationship with water and the sea. How does immersion alter our way of seeing? How does water — or the air of an art space transformed into a fictional water — challenge weight and volume and color and position? The work is conceived as a large environment that will take over the totality of the exhibition space.
Teresa Solar is an artist based in Madrid, Spain. She graduated with an MA in Cultural Studies from the UEM ( Universidad Europea de Madrid ) in 2009. Solar’s work was recently shown at Haus der Kunst Munich; Matadero Madrid; Fundación Marcelino Botín, Santander; Maxxi, Rome; General Public in Berlin; and Kunstverein München. Her work is also part of KölnSkulptur #9 in Cologne. She was a fellow at Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart and took part in the 2018 expedition of “The Current” organized by TBA21–Academy.
