SPANISH THEATRE NIGHT – MOSCOW ART THEATRE

SPANISH THEATRE NIGHT – MOSCOW ART THEATRE

To celebrate Spanish Theatre Night, AC/E is collaborating with Moscow Art Theatre on staging performances of La piedra oscura and Haz click aquí, two plays by the young Spanish authors Alberto Conejero and José Padilla that are directed by Pablo Messiez and José Padilla himself. The cast is made up of a selection of Russian actors funded by Moscow Art Theatre, which considers this event to be of significant cultural interest. This initiative is designed to bring Spanish plays to Russian audiences and to promote exchanges between the cultures of the two countries.

A complementary roundtable will be held with the authors and directors at the Moscow Instituto Cervantes to analyse the investigative and creative process of the plays.

Pablo Messiez is an actor, playwright, director and acting instructor. He has worked for important Argentine directors such as Leonor Manso, Cristián Drut, Rubén Szuchmacher, Daniel Suárez Marsal and Daniel Veronese.

José Padilla holds a degree in Drama from RESAD. He won the Ojo Crítico theatre prize awarded by Radio Nacional de España in 2013 and the Premio Réplica for the best Canary Islands author for his work Porno Casero. He has translated and adapted Sarah Kane’s Blasted (as Reventado) and Edward Bond’s Have I none (as Otro no tengo). His original works include En el cielo de mi boca and Cuando llueve vodka.

Alberto Conejero holds a degree in Stage Direction and Dramaturgy from the Real Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático in Madrid and a doctorate from the Universidad Complutense of Madrid. He has published and premiered more than a dozen plays, notably La piedra oscura, which ran at the Teatro Solís in Montevideo in 2014 and also featured in the 2014–2015 season of the Centro Dramático Nacional, and La extraña muerte de una cupletista contada por su perro, published in the collective volume II Laboratorio de Escritura Teatral held by the Fundación Autor in 2014.
