The Bogotá international book fair (FILBO) is one of the most important literary events of Latin America. It has half a million visitors and lasts for two weeks. It features events for readers, children, young people and professionals from the publishing world.
This year Spain is taking part in two main activities. The first is the presentation to the Colombian public of the anthology Lunáticos, amantes y poetas, a joint project of AC/E, Hay Festival and the British Council. The book brings together twelve tales, six by English-speaking writers who commemorate the figure of Cervantes, and six Spanish speakers who pay tribute to Shakespeare.
With the support of AC/E’s Mobility programme, the fair will also feature four Spanish authors (Carlos Pardo, Mercedes Cebrián, Luis Muñoz, Ana Alonso) in the famous “conversations that will change your life”. Every year more than 90 national and foreign authors take part in the talks, workshops and debates in this section on various issues related to current literary production; it is the largest section of FILBO’s cultural programme. Each year the talks revolve around a central theme, which in 2016 is the handling of the government’s peace talks with the Colombian guerrilla.
