Sofia International Literary Festival, 2015

The third edition of Sofia International Literary Festival, which is devoted to the Iberian Peninsula, will introduce Bulgarian audiences to some of the most important writers of Spain and Portugal.

The following authors are taking part in the festival:
 Jordi Galcerán. In Bulgaria this author is known for five plays. In 2010 Bulgarian theatre director Yavor Gardev staged this Catalan playwright’s most famous play, El método Grönholm (The Grönholm Method), in Moscow, reaping great success. It has been performed in theatres in more than 69 countries. More than 20 of his plays have been translated to date and are currently showing in various places all over the world. 
 
Maite Carranza. This Catalan writer of literature for children and young people combines teaching at universities in Barcelona and Valencia with writing television screenplays. She has published more than 40 titles, including novels and short stories, which have been translated into more than 20 languages. She has 12 prizes for literature under her belt, including some of the most prestigious awards in Spain.
 
Marcos Giralt Torrente, born in Madrid, is a leading writer of his generation. In 1999 he won the Herralde prize for novelists and was acknowledged as one of the most promising writers in Spain. He has also received the Modest Furest i Roca prize and the Ribera del Duero international narrative prize. He achieved worldwide fame with the Spanish national literature prize (2011) and the Strega Italian prize which was awarded to him in 2014, the same year as the Bulgarian writer Georgi Gospodinov and Finnish writer Rosa Liksom.
 
Clara Sánchez is one of the most important contemporary Spanish science-fiction writers and also has experience as a teacher and journalist. Her novels reflect on various social traditions and cultural phenomena. Clara Sánchez’s success is impressive. Her works have been published by the thousand and translated in more than 10 countries.
 
Lorenzo Silva was born in Madrid and holds a degree in law. As a writer, he has earned the recognition of critics and the interest of readers. His novels are among the most widely read in Spain, and some have been adapted to the cinema. He became famous for the crime TV series on Rubén Bevilacqua based on eight of his novels. The writer won two of the most important literary prizes in Spain for two of these novels. 

Sofia International Literary Festival has also invited representatives of the young generation of Iberian literature.
 
Andrés Barba of Madrid, one of the most prestigious Spanish novelists; Unai Elorriaga, still little known to Bulgarian readers; and Portuguese writer Pedro Eiras, who will give a lecture on Portuguese literature.
