La Bailarina is a mechanical proclamation in support of women. Now that women’s voices are being heard calling for their rightful place, Antigua i Barbuda takes to the streets to celebrate their greatness. This large wooden dancer more than 5 metres high, a symbol of women’s freedom and strength, is accompanied by local dance and ballet schools. The dancer crosses the city encouraging anyone interested to join in the dancing and celebrate the empowerment of women. This street show combines music, light, dancing and beauty.
The 36th edition of the festival features shows from all continents, with a focus on three themes: inclusiveness, diversity and decentralisation. The festival has also undertaken to stress the role of women creators in its programme and to present new pieces that decentralise the established discourse.
