RIFF, Rome Independent Film Festival, has been held annually in the city since 2002 and is an important meeting point for the international film world. Among its aims, it sets out to promote dialogue, research and experimentation.
This year’s edition includes more than 100 independent films and documentaries, as well as many Italian and European films that will be screened for the first time. A novel feature this year is the out-of-competition section Teddy Award 2014–2015 for films on LGBT topics, which is presented by the independent jury of the official Berlin Festival (Berlinale). The Teddy is a queer film award that is designed to promote tolerance, acceptance, solidarity and equality.
The films selected for the Fuoriconfine section include the Italian-Spanish poetic comedy Rocco tiene tu nombre by director Angelo Orlando, who is known for working with some of the greatest Italian directors such as Federico Fellini, Massimo Troisi and Mario Monicelli, and the Spanish film Todos Estan Muertos by Beatriz Sanchís, which tells the story of Lupe, a pop-rock star.
