Ateliers is an independent institution founded in 1963 and aimed at fostering the artistic development of young international creators. Located in the centre of Amsterdam, it offers the artists who complete a residency programme there 23 studios and a programme based on motivation and critical guidance provided by those responsible for running it.
In 2014 Ateliers received 776 applications for one of its 23 studios from artists from all over the world. In 2015 one of the chosen candidates was the Spanish artist June Crespo, who will complete her residency between September 2015 and August 2017. In order to develop one of AC/E’s goals – boosting the presence of Spanish artists in international institutions – an agreement has been reached with Ateliers on collaborating on the residency of June Crespo.
Crespo’s work commonly revolves around the experimental reproduction of images and their use in the field of graphic arts and sculptural installation. She takes a broad approach to sculpture, producing objects verging on assemblage, collage and camera-less photography.
