CALL
Period for submitting applications. From 6 February to 5 March 2019.
The chosen candidate will be given a workshop at La Linterna and enjoy an artistic residency at the Museo La Tertulia from 12 April to 12 May 2019. The posters will be produced together with the staff at La Linterna.
The themes to be addressed during this residency – by creating a poster that raises readers’ awareness – are the pressing problems of local (and Colombian) society: that is, gender violence and femicides. At least 32 women were killed in Valle del Cauca province in 2018, 22 of them in Cali, and the rate of impunity is very high.
This process of exploration, reflection and creation will take place over the course of a month, during which the artist in residence will work in close contact with an artist of Cali. The local artist will also be selected by means of a call for applications, and will receive incentives for their time and work. The call for applications will be published under the auspices of the department of the secretary for culture of Cali and will be coordinated by the Museo La Tertulia in cooperation with La Linterna and Ternario.
The residency includes:
- Accommodation at the Museo La Tertulia with all amenities included for 30 days from 12 April to 12 May. There the artist will be able to carry out their investigation with the support of the curatorial team of the museum, which since 1956 has housed one of the most complete collections of modern and contemporary art of Colombia, with a particular focus on drawing and paper as a support.
- Access to a working space of their own at La Linterna, where they will be supplied with materials and be assisted by the employees of the graphic workshop in producing the poster. The result of the residency will be produced in accordance with the traditional practices upheld by this iconic printing studio for more than 50 years.
- Travel Madrid – Cali – Spain arranged by ENTREVIÑETAS and funded by AC/E, in economy class.
- A single payment of € 338 (the equivalent in COP, maximum variation €10) to produce the poster. This amount may be subject to national taxes, which are to be paid by the artist.
- A basic daily wage of 32,500 Colombian pesos to cover meals and city travel. It does not cover immigration paperwork expenses, medical insurance or vaccination.
