Attua Aparicio is the artist selected to enjoy eleven weeks, between August 24 and November 15, at the European Ceramic Workcentre (EKWC) to develop a ceramic project.
The residency is organized by EKWC and Acción Cultural Española, and is aimed at Spanish artists, designers, musicians and architects to work with ceramics. The EKWC encourages artists from all fields who have not worked with ceramics before, as well as advanced ceramic artists to apply. To do this they must present an imaginative work plan, an experimental attitude and/or a strong concept; something that you would like to achieve in twelve weeks and that would not be possible without the facilities or advice of EKWC experts.
Attua Aparicio (Ávila, 1981) is a multidisciplinary artist based in London who works at the intersection of design, crafts and art. She graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2011 with MA Design Products. Her practice is driven by material investigation and direct experimentation. She is interested in sustainability, the hybridization of materials and tactility. Collaborations are a fundamental part of her practice. She co-founded Silo Studio with Oscar Lessing and also collaborates regularly with her sister, artist Saelia Aparicio, and glassblower artist Jochen Holz. Among her most recent projects are the presentation of the Alcova Project Space during the Salone del Mobile 2023 in Milan and three collective exhibitions in 2022: 'No ordinary home' at the Nicoletta Fiorucci Foundation, London; 'R for Repair' at Victoria and Albert museum, London; and 'Feet of Clay' at Kestle Burton, Helston curated for Rebecca Lewis.
