AC/E and FLORA ars+natura
(Colombia) organize two residencies for artists of Spanish nationality. The two chosen artists for this edition of a five-month residency at FLORA are Iñaki Chávarri (March - July) and Irene de Andrés (July - December).
FLORA ars+natura is a space for contemporary art in Bogotá, Colombia, that specializes in the relationship between art and nature. FLORA’s foci are: production through commissions and residencies; the circulation of the results, and education.
FLORA is a meeting place for artists and those interested in contemporary art. It’s a space with an open character and a domestic scale, with a high level of quality. FLORA intends to become a point of reference for the local scene in Bogotá, establishing links with the rest of the country and abroad through international residencies, commissioned projects, and intense educational activity.
Flora is settled in two main places: Flora’s House in Bogotá, where the library, art studios and project’s room are located, and Casa Deuxsoleils in Honda town, where residences take place.

Residency call
Each of the two chosen artists will be entitled to:
– A studio/workshop including all amenities for a five-month period. One of the artists will spend from March to July and the other from August to December 2016.
– Participation in the Escuela FLORA independent study programme during that period.
– A monthly allowance for accommodation, food and travel of 2,600,000 Colombian pesos for five (5) months each.
– Return travel to Bogotá in economy class from their place of residence.
The following are NOT included:
– Fees.
– Budget for the production of work.
At the artist’s request, FLORA will issue letters and certificates for other funds assigned to expenses not covered by this agreement. Under no circumstances will FLORA assign funds to these expenses; this must be done by the artist.
Each of the chosen artists undertakes to do the following:
-Apply for a six-month residence permit in Colombia. FLORA will provide a letter of acceptance and award of the grant to assist the artist in this process.
-Use the studio at FLORA for a maximum of 5 months, respecting the Community Handbook which must be accepted and signed before beginning the residency.
-Accept and sign a contract laying down the rules, regulations and considerations on the use of the studio and the works produced during the residency in accordance with current Colombian legislation.
-Attend all the activities on the academic calendar of Escuela FLORA, which includes workshop visits, seminars and study groups. If the artist needs to take leave of absence, the maximum period is two weeks and must be justified and notified one month in advance.
-Give a presentation of the results of the residency in the studio at the end of the stay. FLORA will do everything possible to cater to the needs of the project, provided the latter is not detrimental to the physical conditions of the space or contrary to current Colombian regulations. Under no circumstances will FLORA produce exhibitions or grant money for production.
HOW TO APPLY
1. Fill out the application form
2. Write a brief presentation of your previous work.
Using a maximum of 300 words, describe the conceptual guidelines of your work so that the selection committee can gain an idea of your interests, the overall aims of the work and most commonly used media, etc.
3. Include a maximum of 5 images of recent works.
Send a brief dossier featuring five images of recent works with a short description of each as a caption. Any videos must be uploaded to Youtube or Vimeo, so that the selection committee do not have to download them and to ensure there are no compatibility problems. The web links must be listed in the related document.
APPLICANTS MUST:
-Gather all the information in a single PDF document no larger than 10 MB, identifying the file with the artist’s name.
– Sent the documents via email to info@arteflora.org (applications sent in separate documents will not be accepted; they must be combined in a single PDF and attached to a single email)
- Write as the subject line of the email to which the documentation is attached and on the attached file: Acción Cultural Español Residency / [applicant’s name].
Deadline: 15 January 2016 at 23:00 Colombian time. Projects not received on time will not be considered.
3 days after the closing date FLORA will publish a list of applications received. The names of the two successful applicants will be published on 20 January 2016.
The chosen artists accept and authorise FLORA ars+natura to use photographs of their work for the purpose of dissemination and documentation.
By participating in this call for applications, applicants expressly agree to the terms and conditions thereof and the decision of the selection committee, which is final.
