During his residency at SOMA, Xabier Salaberria is working on a project in Mexico City curated by Catalina Lozano with the support of the AC/E Mobility grants. The result of this process will be exhibited at Parallel, an independent venue in Mexico City.
In this project Salaberria sets out to explore various lines of work which will progressively give shape to his output during the residency. One of Salaberria’s starting points is the emergence of the “international style” in the museum layout of pre-Hispanic pieces. As usual in his work, the artist will attempt to subvert the established logic of exhibitions through his sculpture. In addition, during the four weeks spent working locally, on 20 September Salaberria will give a talk and a workshop as part of SOMA’s educational programme (see more >)
