The Punto de Vista International Documentary Film Festival is an annual event for showcasing new trends in documentary films. Since its establishment in 2005, it has been based on the ethical and cinematographic commitment of Jean Vigo, who advocated the need for a “documented point of view”. Organised by the government of Navarra in collaboration with the public company NICDO, it is held in the city of Pamplona in the month of February.
International film festival programmers are taking part in the 9th edition of the festival in 2015 with the support of AC/E: Elena Fortes (director of the Festival de Cine Ambulante de México), Bendriss Nourdinne (Director of Tetouan film festival), Ozge Calafato (programmer from Abu Dhabi) and Alexei Dmitriev (programmer from Russia). Throughout its existence, the festival has progressively woven a web of contacts with similar film festivals, but its size has prevented it from inviting programmers or directors of these events to Navarra. The support provided by the PICE will therefore play an important role in strengthening these networking efforts. These four visitors will be involved in different areas of the festival, such as presenting films or round tables. All the screenings and activities will take place in the Auditorio Baluarte in Pamplona.
The most important distinguishing features of the festival are its focus on documentaries as cinema as opposed to the hegemony of televised documentaries, and the decision to welcome independent, socially committed filmmakers with strong views and new ideas in order to establish the festival as an innovative event that is a meeting place for filmmakers, public and cinema professionals, and a place of discovery where new approaches are learned.
