During the summer season, WIELS organizes a thematic group exhibition to its former artists-in-residency. "Psychomagic Acts for the City" prominently features Patricia Esquivias, including seven other artists that can be seen as urban explorers, taking to the streets of the city, seeking out locations, experiences, and ways of reclaiming the increasingly disregarded couleurs locales and disparate voices of contemporary society.
The fragmentary and deadpan style pursued by Esquivias reflects her understanding of the modern urban space as the locus of the disintegration of everyday social imagination and cultural unity. Esquivias, born in 1979 and raised in Madrid, was in residence at WIELS in 2010.
