Pronomos is the name of a new cutting-edge musical instrument: the latest step in the evolution of the modern Western concert flute designed by Theoblad Boehm at the end of the nineteenth century. Julián Elvira’s Pronomos flute marks a turning point in the history of this instrument and its related literature.
The Center University of New York, with the collaboration of AC/E, is hosting the presentation of a series of works by New York-based Spanish and American composers that have been written specially for the Pronomos flute in order to progressively generate specific literature for this instrument, giving it a voice and imbuing it with life. Javier Arias, Pedro Gómez, Julián Ávila, Eduardo Costa, Sonia Megías, Inés Thiebaut and Alexandra Gardner, in close collaboration with Julián Elvira, have been chosen to showcase the genetic essence of this flute and its acoustic potential.
This multidisciplinary concert held in collaboration with digital artist Marta Verde is much more than a traditional recital and shows an avant-garde scene that draws on new media and resources to imagine and conceive original ideas.
