This year is the 150th anniversary of the birth of the great composer Enrique Granados, and AC/E is supporting several cultural events designed to help people rediscover and appreciate his contribution to music. They include several concerts scheduled for this season (spring 2017) at the Municipal Auditorium of Lleida to celebrate Granados year:
Granados: Dances, waltzes and transcriptions. José Menor
Friday, 17 March – 8.30pm
José Menor, piano
This concert is inspired by programmes Granados offered at the Salle Pleyel in Paris and the Salón Romero in Madrid, and features a selection of his Spanish Dances. It includes one of his most commonly performed collections, the Poetic Waltzes, and pieces that are clearly related such as the Love Letters, Intimate Waltzes and Sentimental Waltzes. It also features arrangements of Baroque sonatas and Azulejos, begun by his Spanish composer and pianist friend Isaac Albéniz.

Thursday, 20 April – 8.30pm – 10pm
Marta Infante, mezzosoprano
Jorge Robaina, piano
The mezzosoprano Marta Infante and the pianist Jorge Robaina pay tribute to the composer Enrique Granados. The Lleida-born composer produced many pieces for voice, and at this recital the audience can enjoy some of the best songs and cycles from the composer’s repertoire as well as songs by composers such as Robert Schumann, Frederic Chopin and César Franck, who inspired Enrique Granados, unlike his contemporaries, to remain more evidently under the influence of Romanticism.
