'Poetas' at Puerto Rico's Festival de la Palabra 2016

'Poetas' at Puerto Rico's Festival de la Palabra 2016

Poetas (Poets) is a festival for poets, a gathering of poets for the public at large. Poetas stems from 10 years of experience, as it has developed from the Poetas por km2 (Poets per km2) festival, which was established in 2005 as a meeting point for alternative expressions of artists of words. In 2009 the support of AECID enabled the festival to spread from Spain to Latin America. In this new period, Poetas aims to carry on exploring the image of words from a multidisciplinary and eclectic approach.

After ten years of Poetas por Km.2, its spin-off, the first edition of the poetry festival Poetas, is designed to further the aim of establishing a transatlantic dialogue between the poetries of Spain and Latin America. It is being held for the first time in Puerto Rico in collaboration with the Festival de la Palabra, and will take the form of readings, presentations and meetings with students.

The poets involved in Poetas with the support of AC/E will take part in the festival’s activities in collaboration with Puerto Rico’s Festival de la Palabra in a bid to mutually enrich cultural initiatives for promoting Spanish language and literature.
The poets will give public readings as well as individual presentations of their work during the three days the festival runs. These presentations will be aided by visual supports and some will be accompanied by musical collaboration. They will likewise take part in a debate on the transformative power of poetry and in meetings with Puerto Rican secondary school and university students.
