Play-Doc presents for this edition one of its most ambitious programmes in recent years. They highlight the first retrospective in Spain of Kidlat Tahimik, multi-awarded author, father of the new Filipino cinema and cult figure for international cinephilia. The presentation of the acclaimed critic and filmmaker Wolf-Eckart Bühler and the tribute to the great Sterling Hayden. In addition to include premieres, cycles, and activities of training and promotion of Spanish cinema. The support of Acción Cultural Española (AC/E) through its Programme for the Internationalization of Spanish Culture (PICE) in the modality of Visitors makes it possible for programmers Christopher Small (Frelance / MUBI / Locarno Festival) and Gerwin Tamsa (International Festival of Rotterdam) to come to this edition to see first-hand the latest creations of Spanish cinema.
Located in the historical town of Tui, in southern Galicia, Play-Doc started out in 2005 as an independent project that has succeeded in establishing a festival model that combines a small but thorough programme with a huge following. Its founders’ aims were to bring audiences a different type of film that is otherwise difficult to see and to create a space for dialogue and exchange.
