Pérez Siquier

Pérez Siquier

Carlos Pérez Siquier (Almería, 1930-2021) was a leading figure in the forging of photographic modernism and the overall professionalisation of photography in Spain. He enjoyed a prominent place on the Spanish scene, firstly for his Neo-realist work and later on as a pioneer of color photography. Pérez Siquier acted from a peripheral position on the sidelines in both of these disciplines, with a unique perspective fully mindful of his own authorship despite having started out with an intuitive understanding of photography that had more to do with that of a passerby than of a portraitist.

This exhibition was initially organized by the Mapfre Foundation for its headquarters in Madrid (June 1 and August 28, 2022). Acción Cultural Española, in collaboration with the Fundación Mapfre and the FFFrankfurt - Fotografie Forum Frankfurt, organize this international itinerary within the framework of Spain Guest of Honor at the Frankfurt Book Fair. The exhibition brings to Germany for the first time a very extensive retrospective of the artist that covers his most emblematic series, made between 1957 and 2018, to which documentary contributions are added that enrich the discourse.
