AC/E is taking part in the events commemorating the 5th centenary of the discovery of the Pacific Ocean by Vasco Núñez de Balboa through this exhibition project. It sets out to analyse and promote knowledge of the far-reaching significance of this historic event and highlight Spain’s presence in the Pacific.
Spain made an important effort and contribution to Europe’s colonial and cultural expansion of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. This exhibition provides an up-to-date perspective of the Spanish legacy in the Pacific coastal nations, emphasising the areas and modes of cultural, social and economic interaction. Basically, it aims to give visitors from the Pacific communities a better insight into the historic and cultural legacy received from their past relations with Spain.
