ÓXIDO FEST is a new cultural initiative that was started up in 2014 by Javier Mosquera and Elías Aguirre. The project is based on the synergies that dance establishes with other disciplines and/or sources of creation. The structure of ÓXIDO FEST therefore alludes to the Lewis molecular structure of iron oxide, and following the performances audiences can experience for themselves the wide range of possibilities for interaction that exist between dance and technology, robotics, video, cinema, photography, the circus and theatre. The name of the initiative, óxido (meaning rust in Spanish), is also a concept that refers to the wear metals undergo when they are exposed to the elements, and links up directly with the festival’s leitmotif: the street. Outdoor and unconventional spaces are thus its main backdrops.
This second edition is taking place in Madrid on 11 and 12 July and includes six shows performed in unconventional spaces, the 2nd international Screen Dance competition, and the 1st International Forum organised in collaboration with Acción Cultural Española (AC/E), to which Loikka Dance Film Festival (Finland), the International Video Dance Festival of Burgundy (France), the International Video Dance Festival of Chile, Fiver (La Rioja), Choreoscope (Barcelona), María Rogel (Milk & Money) and Marlon Barrios are invited.
