Operaestate Festival Veneto, a multidisciplinary festival held annually in the Italian region of Veneto and now in its 35th year, puts on more than 300 shows every year during the months of July and August. It is a testament to the cultural richness of the region, which sets out to pay tribute to art and beauty with this festival.
With the support of AC/E through the Mobility grants, Compañía Sharon Fridman is presenting a project under the dance section, In Memoriam, to commemorate the centenary of the Great War. This project, developed through residencies, is designed for 100 dancers from the company and local schools, together with 300 singers from local choirs. It uses two languages – contemporary dance and popular music – to recreate the memory of the events and the people who lay at rest in the spaces where it is performed. They are symbolic places in the Veneto region ranging from the Piazza Libertà in Bassano del Grappa to the military monuments of Monte Grappa and Asiago-Leiten. The artistic director is choreographer and dancer Sharon Fridman.
A reduced version of the show will also be performed by young dancers at the Venice Biennale and Villa da Porto.
