As a result of the visit to Spain paid by the curator of OK Centrum in Linz in 2005, many Spanish artists have since been invited to show their work at the Austrian institution. On this occasion AC/E is collaborating with OK Centrum through its mobility programme to enable Fernando Sánchez Castillo to present this project at this fabulous venue.
The exhibition tells the history of the famous boat that ceased to be the property of Spain’s heritage institution Patrimonio Nacional and was purchased by a group of entrepreneurs from Burgos to build a hotel. The artist bought the yacht in 2011 to show it first at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo in León (dismantled) and later at Matadero Madrid, where he pressed and transformed it into a large prism that emphasises its minimalistic impersonality and lack of emotional references, although he retained a few references such as the mast. This project subsequently travelled to the Kunstverein in Braunschweig (Germany) and is now coming to OK Centrum in Linz.
