This project aims to tell a “shared story” centered on the shipwreck of the Frigate Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes, a historical event that occurred in 1804 - at a time when the great change to the “modern world” was being experienced - to build a choral narrative about that episode to which seven countries are linked, either through the history of the frigate or its cargo: Spain, Uruguay, Chile, Mexico and Bolivia. It is, therefore, an international cultural cooperation project, with a large traveling exhibition in whose conception, development and execution teams from these countries participate, which will also host it successively, configuring the roaming circuit.
The story is told throughout the exhibition circuit through the different points of view of the countries involved in two blocks of content: the first with the part of the history common to all countries, and the second block focused on the aspects of history that each country has considered most significant. The Spanish curatorial team, composed of Rafael Sabio (National Museum of Underwater Archeology of Cartagena) and Carolina Notario (National Prado Museum), is responsible for preparing the complete exhibition speech for the venue at the Arqua de Cartagena - that is, the Spanish particular block and the common itinerant block that, after closing in Spain, will travel to the rest of the venues.
