Muestra Intermezzo Flamenco 2015

antonio reyes & diego del morao flamenco dream team Tour December 2015
The international flamenco scene eagerly awaits the release of their first live album, recorded last spring. Camarón de la Isla & Paco de Lucía as well as Enrique Morente & Manolo Sanlúcar made ‘flamenco dream teams’ because of their profound musical connection. These two young interpreters of the time-honoured art of flamenco just might follow in their footsteps and write history with their newly found artistic kinship. The Dutch Flamenco Biennial is proud to host the premiere of the international CD release of Antonio Reyes y Diego del Morao: Live at the Círculo Flamenco de Madrid with no less than five concerts in our Intermezzo Flamenco Series! Similar to Del Morao, flamenco singer Antonio Reyes (Chiclana, 1975) has mastered the classical repertoire of the great flamenco maestros, while at the same time gracing the cante (flamenco song) with his unique spirit. His voice is renowned for its melodious echo, its whispering lament and its pure timbre. The ‘grit’ in his voice reaches deep into the soul. Reyes has been singing ‘for as long as he can remember.’ In 2014 the Spanish audience and press ‘discovered’ him out of the blue. After that he was showered with awards, among which the Giraldillo in 2014, the prize for best singer awarded by the Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla. Today Diego Del Morao (Jerez de la Frontera, 1979) has made quite a name for himself in the Netherlands with several appearances at our festival. In the current flamenco scene he is one of the most sought-after guitarists, who rose to fame through his collaborations with some of the best flamenco artists such as Diego el Cigala, José Mercé and Niña Pastori. According to Paco de Lucía, who contributed to his debut album Orate, Del Morao is the greatest talent of his generation. Viva tú (Long Live You), De Lucía wrote on the guitar of the son of legendary Moraíto Chico, who, together with his uncle Manuel Morao, is responsible for the unmistakable sound of traditional Jerez flamenco guitar. Diego del Morao takes his family’s local gipsy swing into the 21st century. As guitar master Manolo Sanlúcar said, “This is the vanguard, and at the same time our essence: past, present and future.’
