The 2024/2025 season of the programme, organised by the Spanish Ministry of Culture and Cultural Action (AC/E) and curated by Juventudes Musicales Españolas, offers 48 concerts until March
Each of the 16 museums in the network will be the stage for three concerts of classical, pop, flamenco, jazz or contemporary music, establishing a dialogue with the heritage on display or the theme of the collection
In addition, the participants, selected in an open call to which 200 applicants took part, will receive training workshops to boost their professional careers
The project fulfils a double purpose of promoting young national performers and, at the same time, bringing state museum spaces closer to new audiences
The opening concert will take place on 17 September at the Sorolla Museum, by the Nim Duo. Guitarist Elena Ortega illustrated the presentation ceremony today at the National Archaeological Museum
‘Musae. Music in State Museums’ will give visibility in its eighth edition to a new generation of emerging talents in Spanish music. A total of 106 performers of different genres are participating in the 2024/2025 season of the programme organised by the Ministry of Culture and Spanish Cultural Action (AC/E) and curated by Juventudes Musicales de España. Between September and March, the cycle will offer a total of 48 concerts on this occasion in the 16 state museums dependent on the Ministry of Culture that are spread throughout the territory.
The project aims to give visibility to emerging musical talent in Spain, in the unique setting offered by the network's museums to perform and listen to quality music. In this way, the MusaE project fulfils a double purpose of promoting young national performers and, at the same time, bringing state museum spaces closer to new audiences. This was made clear today at the presentation of the edition at the National Archaeological Museum (MAN), in Madrid, which was attended by the Director General of Cultural Heritage and Fine Arts of the Ministry of Culture, Isaac Sastre; the Director of Programming of AC/E, Inmaculada Ballesteros; the President of Juventudes Musicales de España, Miquel Cuenca; and the Director of the MAN, Isabel Izquierdo. Representing the young musicians on the bill, the guitarist Elena Ortega illustrated the event, with the Noble Halls of the MAN as the stage.
Concerts spread throughout the territory
The programme proposes almost fifty concerts in the different centres of the network of State Museums, addressing diverse musical styles that include both classical and ancient and contemporary music. This season, there are also groups participating that will enrich the stylistic repertoire, with traditional music, jazz, flamenco and, as a novelty, experimental folklore or historical dance.
Each of the state museums is hosting a series of three different concerts this year. The recitals are presented in two formats: a concert, using the key spaces of each museum as a stage; and a micro-recital, consisting of 15-minute sessions spread across the museum's rooms or on a travelling basis. All the programmes and repertoires have been specially designed for the museum in which they will be performed, with the aim of creating a dialogue between the music and the heritage on display or the theme of the collection. This stylistic diversity is therefore adapted to the unique proposal offered by each museum, which includes large institutions, house-museums or museums dedicated to a singular artist. Thus, museums provide unrivalled stages for bringing the public closer to cultural heritage from a new perspective.
The Sorolla Museum in Madrid will kick off the season on September 17 with a micro-recital by the Nim Duo, with four performances (at 4:30 p.m., 5:15 p.m., 6 p.m. and 6:45 p.m.). The cycle continues this month with pianist Darío Meta at the Museo Nacional de Arte Romano in Mérida on September 19; Compass Duo at the Sorolla Museum on September 25; and percussionist Pablo Mor at the Museo Nacional de Cerámica y Artes Sumptuarias ‘González Martí’ in Valencia on Monday, September 30.
Training workshops for young musicians
Furthermore, after the success of the previous edition, the musicians have been selected again through an open call for musical groups and performers up to 35 years old, to which more than 200 applicants have applied. The project is completed with training workshops to give professional impetus to the professional careers of young performers, which will be held on 16 and 17 September, coinciding with the start of the season. In this way, participants have the opportunity to gain experience performing in front of an audience and can improve their skills for communicating with spectators and promoting their careers. Museums in the network The network of state museums is made up of the National Museum of Underwater Archaeology (ARQVA), in Cartagena; the Museo del Greco and the Sephardic Museum, in Toledo; the Museo Casa de Cervantes and the National Museum of Sculpture, in Valladolid; the National Museum of Roman Art, in Mérida; the National Museum and Research Centre of Altamira, in Santillana del Mar (Cantabria); the National Museum of Ceramics and Sumptuary Arts ‘González Martí’, in Valencia; and in Madrid, the Museum of America, the National Museum of Anthropology, the National Archaeological Museum, the National Museum of Decorative Arts, the Cerralbo Museum, the National Museum of Romanticism, the Costume Museum and the Sorolla Museum.
