Mercedes Zavala's premiere

Promoted by the Snow Mask Composers Group, with the collaboration of the KUNSTEN Museum of Modern Art Aalborg, Open Days is a cycle of concerts held in Aalborg, Denmark, in which foremost international soloists and singers take part.

In 2014, with the support of AC/E through the mobility programme of the PICE,  Open Days is presenting the work of the Madrid-born composer Mercedes Zavala, who is a follower of Malcolm Singer and is interested in theatre museum and African rhythms.

From 2007 to 2010 Mercedes Zavala chaired the association of women in the music industry Asociación Mujeres en la Música. She has collaborated with Radio Nacional de España, Radio Clásica, directing and presenting the programme ‘Álbum de canciones’. She has  also been a member of various juries for composition awards and, as a composer, has received various commissions in Spain: Alicante Contemporary Music Festival, Centro Nacional de Difusión Musical CNDM, Palencia Festival and the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, among others. She has performed outstanding work in disseminating knowledge of women composers of the past. Her scores have been published by Periferia Sheet Music since 2011.
