Melbourne International Jazz Festival is a world jazz event that takes place in the first two weeks of June. One of the festival’s various aims is to become one of the leading jazz centres in the world by providing various platforms for musical performance, teaching and fostering collaboration between artists, and offering a stage to European artists.
With the support of AC/E, the 2014 Melbourne International Jazz Festival is presenting the jazz/flamenco musician Jorge Pardo, one of the pioneers of jazz-flamenco fusion, accompanied by his excellent quartet, who will be performing Huellas (Traces)at Melbourne Recital Centre. New audiences will thus have the chance to listen to Spanish jazz, a music that draws from Spanish classical music, Afro-American and flamenco rhythms as well as Arab and many other influences.
Jorge Pardo is an excellent flautist and saxophonist who has already performed with some of the most important flamenco and jazz musicians. On 15 January 2013 he was crowned best European jazz musician by the French Jazz Academy in Paris.
