In collaboration with San Sebastián Film Festival, the Sebastiane Award will be hosting a meeting for programmers of LGBT festivals of Latin America and Europe, to bring them into contact with film directors from Spain as well as from France, Ecuador, Guatemala and Mexico. The aim of this session is for San Sebastián Festival and the Sebastiane Award to provide a space for meetings and exchanges, encouraging new dynamics.
It also sets out to give visibility to LGTB people and strengthen their ties with the industry representatives attending the festival. The meeting of programmers of LGTB film festivals of Latin America and Europe will enable participants to become involved in the 63rd San Sebastián Film Festival and the activities of the 16th Sebastiane Award.
Programme
Thursday 24 / Tabakalera / 10 am–1.30 pm
Latin America–Europe working meeting
Friday 25 / Galeria Kur, opposite the Kursaal / 7 pm
16th Sebastiane Award ceremony
Saturday 26 / C.C. Egia / 11 pm
The festival’s LGBT party organised by Gehitu
During the working session at Tabakalera on 24 September a number of topics will be proposed as starting points for discussion:
- Organisational differences depending on different legal and social contexts
- Expectations of LGBT festival audiences
- LGBT film festivals and LGBT visibility
The jury of the 16th Sebastiane award is made up of members of Gehitu, and this year is chaired by Benoît Arnulf (director of the In&Out festival in Nice). The prize is awarded to the best LGBT film screened at San Sebastián Festival. As a result of this collaboration with the festival and with the aim of furthering the struggle for dignity and diversity that the award represents, a second award was established three years ago. This new prize, the Sebastiane Latino for the best Latin American LGTB production of the year, will go to Marco Berger for his film Mariposa on 20 September. The meeting of LGBT programmers marks a third step in the Sebastiane Award’s bid to give visibility to stories told in diverse films for everyone.
