Meeting of Cultural Magazines and Bookshops 2017

Meeting of Cultural Magazines and Bookshops 2017

Every year ARCE organises the Meeting of Cultural Magazines of Spain, which brings together editors and publishers of cultural magazines to exchange their experiences and discuss common problems. The publishers set up study groups to deal with specific issues regularly over the course of the year.

The Meeting of Cultural Magazines and Bookshops is structured into two areas of work: a more explanatory part focused on exchanging experiences and observations and pooling ideas, and more practical sessions designed to provide useful tools and specific information on particular issues.

The explanatory session examines a number of questions grouped around the following topics: current situation of bookshops; experiences and new types of products in bookshops; the bookshop as a culture centre; direct relations with publishers and intermediation with readers; experience of cultural publishers and the specific field of publishing cultural magazines; types of presence; magazines as influencers; reading and cultural activities; alternative subscription models for bookshops and readers; and the role of ARCE. This session will be attended by members of CEGAL, the director of Madrid Book Fair, publishing consultors and bookshop directors, with particular emphasis on those which have been awarded the quality standard of the ministry of education, culture and sport.

AC/E is supporting the participation of Manuel Dávila Galindo, a publisher and translator who founded the publishing company Uno de Tres which has been fully devoted to electronic books since 2006. He is a major influencer on cultural content in the university and digital environments in Mexico, a key country for the internationalisation of the Spanish publishing sector in Latin America.
