Maria Goyri. Making Way

The Ramón Menéndez Pidal Foundation and Matadero de Madrid, in collaboration with Acción Cultural Española (AC/E), present this exhibition that covers the life of María Goyri,, writer, researcher in the field of Spanish literature, philologist and Spanish teacher, who It can be seen at the Casa del Lector from April 15 to September 15, 2023. María Goyri was the second official student of Philosophy and Letters at the Spanish University (Matilde Padrós, wife of the painter Francisco Sancha, was the first: she took degree in 1893) and was part of the vanguard of defenders of women's rights. Her studies on the Spanish ballads, together with her husband Ramón Menéndez Pidal, have laid the foundations for research in this field.

The exhibition brings together documentary, photographic and audiovisual collections with the participation of contemporary artists: Mara Catalán, Eduardo Scala, Mariana Laín, Alberto de Guillermo, Ana Musma, Juan Pablo Chipe Javier Olivares, Antonio Areán and María Catalán who take part in the exhibition space inspired by the figure of María Goyri. As in an open book, the words of María Goyri are the common thread that guides us through this biographical and thematic journey that brings us closer to the figure of this unique woman.
