Mardi Gras Film Festival has been held since 1993 as part of Sydney’s Mardi Gras Carnival. It has become one of the largest film festivals in Australia and one of the five best gay film festivals in the world. It is furthermore hailed by filmmakers all over the world as the most important means of promoting gay films to distributors and exhibitors.
In 2015 more than 15,000 people attended the festival and 18,000 are expected to visit this year’s edition. During the 23rd edition of the Mardi Gras Film Festival in 2016 the Spanish film Everlasting Love will be presented; its director Marçal Forés will attend the screening and take part in the subsequent debate thanks to the support of AC/E through its Programme for the Internationalisation of Spanish Culture (PICE).
