Rosa Berbel | Malba Writers Residency 2025

Rosa Berbel (Seville, 1997) has been selected for this residency in Buenos Aires with the support of Acción Cultural Española. The possibility for one of the five selected writers to be of Spanish nationality arises from the common objective of the Malba Writers' Residency and Acción Cultural Española (AC/E) to promote the internationalization of creators from Spain and Argentina, and to build bridges of collaboration with authors, editors, and managers from both countries.

Rosa Berbel is a prominent Spanish poet born on December 22, 1997, in Estepa, Seville. She currently resides in Granada, where she has developed her literary career. Berbel holds a degree in Comparative Literature and a master's degree in Literary and Theatrical Studies from the University of Granada.

Her literary debut was with "Las niñas siempre dicen la verdad" (Girls Always Tell the Truth) (Hiperión, 2018), which won the XXI Antonio Carvajal Young Poetry Award, the Andalusia Critics' Award for Best First Work, and the 2019 RNE Ojo Crítico Poetry Award. In 2022, she published "Los planetas fantasma" (The Ghost Planets) (Tusquets), her second poetry collection.

She has participated in several anthologies such as "La pirotecnia peligrosa" (Dangerous Pyrotechnics) (2015), "Supernova" (2016), "Algo se ha movido" (Something Has Moved) (2018), and "Cuando dejó de llover" (When It Stopped Raining) (2021). She coordinated the digital anthology "Orillas" (Shores) and collaborated in the selection of "Piel fina" (Thin Skin) (2019). She also wrote the prologue for the re-edition of Federico García Lorca's "Poeta en Nueva York" (Poet in New York) (2020).

The Residence of Malba Writers (REM) is an initiative of Malba Literature that collaborates with Ampersand as an institutional partner, the support of AC/E and Cultural Patronage of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires. The residence is aimed at writers and is a forum for exchange and literary creation from the invitation to live five weeks in Buenos Aires, as part of their artistic and professional development. This agreement aims to create a bridge with authors, publishers and managers from Spain and Argentina, deepen existing dialogues, and create new networks of work and creation between both countries.

The REM proposes an urban experience that allows contact with various cultural manifestations of the city and promotes networks of artistic collaboration.
