Luna de Locos. Pereira International Poetry Festival 2017

Pereira International Poetry Festival, Luna de Locos, is one of the most important poetry events in Colombia. Its cultural agenda extends to schools, libraries, universities, theatres and parks of Pereira and the seven municipalities of Risaralda, and involves setting up meetings between young Colombians and poets, both national and international.

In 2017, the festival will welcome guests from Spain, Belgium, Italy, Israel, England, Canada, the United States, Argentina, Venezuela, Chile, Ecuador and Colombia. Run in conjunction with the festival, the programme “Poetry returns to the classroom” is a major effort to raise the awareness of young people by getting them to take part in an agenda of activities including poetry readings, talks on poetic creation, participation in debates on translation, and workshops.

As part of the preparations for the Spain-Colombia programme for 2018, Acción Cultural Española is supporting the presence at the festival of four great Spanish poets. They are: the veteran Luis García Montero (Granada, 1958), a poet, literary critic, essayist and professor of Spanish literature at the University of Granada, winner of the Adonáis and Loewe awards, the National Prize for Literature in 1994 and the National Critics’ Prize; Elena Medel, the author of several poetry books, director of the publishing company La Bella Varsovia, and coordinator of the project Cien de cien designed to boost the visibility of the work of twentieth-century Spanish poets, who will be Spain’s youngest participant; Ernesto Pérez Zúñiga, the author of a collection of short stories and several novels; and Raquel Lanseros, a poet, translator and anthologist.
