The 10th Pereira international poetry festival features an agenda of events that are free of charge at cultural centres, libraries, universities, parks, theatres and schools in 8 municipalities of Risaralda (western Colombia). The event is designed as a stimulus to writing for young people in the company of poets from all over the world.
This 10th edition features a special programme of 54 literary activities held in 12 schools, 4 cultural centres, 7 libraries, 3 universities, 5 parks and 4 theatres. The 2016 festival brings together guests from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Spain, France, Italy, Norway, Cuba and Colombia with activities open to all and free of charge.
Organised as part of the Poetry Festival, the programme ‘La poesía vuelve al salón de clase’ (Poetry goes back to the classroom) is chiefly intended to raise awareness, as the poets attending take part in activities that include poetry readings, talks on literary creation, roundtables on translation and literary tradition, and literary creation workshops. Each poet taking part in this project has an agenda of 10 activities (2 daily) in Pereira and 6 towns in Risaralda. Each beneficiary institution previously carries out awareness raising work with its communities to prepare for a special meeting to make the most of the poets’ visits. These activities are complemented with plans to promote writing in schools and to foster contact with local creators.
