Literary Geographies of José Luis Sampedro

Literary Geographies of José Luis Sampedro

The exhibition sets us to show the literary work of José Luis Sampedro (Barcelona, 1917 - Madrid, 2013), exploring the geographical spaces that have left a mark on his work and his life. This travelling exhibition marks the beginning a programme commemorating the first centenary of his birth.

The exhibition features twelve graphic panels exploring his books, writing and his particular workshop with its index cards, diagrams, drawings, notes, tracings ... It enables visitors to learn about the characteristics and life of a writer who advocated an economy that was "more humane, more caring, able to help develop the dignity of people". He applied his critical humanism to the moral and social disruption arising from Western-style neoliberalism and the brutalities of capitalism.

A dialogue between life and fiction, between writing and life, literature and thought developes during a journey that takes the visitor from Sampedro's first literary successes through to some of his last published works.
