Lima Independiente. Festival Internacional de Cine 2015

Lima Independiente. Festival Internacional de Cine 2015

The independent film festival Lima Independiente is the most important event for disseminating and discussing the contemporary independent film world in Peru. It is organised by Espacio y Tiempo Asociación Cultural with the collaboration of public and private institutions that share the wish to disseminate a type of cinema that is more artistically risky. The festival’s organisers believe that cinema should not be distinguished by degree of functionality or documentation, or by duration, but rather by aesthetic value and creative independence. This aesthetic value is based on the conception of artistic risk, which always seeks the least conventional paths towards creating a work.

The first edition of the festival was held in June 2011 and featured more than 100 films, which were screened in 10 theatres in Lima. A handful of low-budget works in digital format had been rewriting the history of Peruvian cinema. This valuable, hitherto dispersed material was appreciated by a young audience eager for innovation. At this 5th edition, as in all previous ones, the festival is encouraging critical reflection and is especially aimed at audiences who are receptive to new ideas.

Ion de Sosa, Javier H. Estrada and Spanish producer Luis Miñarro are taking part in the 2015 edition of the festival with the collaboration of AC/E.
