Coinciding with ARCO, ArtFairs is organising the fifth JUSTMAD5Emerging Art Fair. The approach to year’s event has changed with respect to previous years in order to launch a riskier and more experimental fair focused entirely on national and international emerging art – up and coming but also established present-day art. .
The fair features a wide range of representative galleries and artists and showcases the new ways in which art operates. JusMad5 seeks a radical commitment to excellence in the aesthetic and conceptual fields that mark the reality of today’s contemporary art. And, as always, this year’s event also features national and foreign critics, theoreticians and curators, some of whom are taking part in the Justalks programme of lectures.
AC/E is collaborating with JustMad5 through the visitor programme of the PICE by supporting the participation of the following professionals in Guest Curators:
- Miriam Kathreinassistant curator of the Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary TBA21. She teaches museum science and curatorial studies at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts and is also a research fellow at the Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art Rotterdam.
- Isobel Harrison, a London-based independent curator and writer. She contributes regularly to publications and journals such as ArtReview, Frieze, Kaleidoscope and Modern Painters.
- Nat Muller, an independent curator and critic and regular contributor to Art Papers, Bidoun, ArtPUlse, X-tra and others. Specialised in the intersections between aesthetics, politics and the media, she is also e-culture advisor at the Dutch Ministry of Culture.
- Anna Gritz,associate curator at the South London Gallery, she also contributes to various publications and exhibition catalogues such as Art Agenda, Frieze, Flash Art and Monopol.
- Margarida Mendes, director of The Barber Shop in Lisbon, a space founded in 2009 in central Lisbon where seminars, screenings and performances are held. Fields of study that interest her are cybernetics, non-linear dynamics, geo-philosophy and experimental cinema. She has curated various exhibitions.
- Andrea Pacheco, coordinator of Quinta Normal at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Chile (MAC) and curator of JustMad5’s JustResidence programme. She has curated various exhibitions in Spain and Chile, especially of video art.
