Juana Francés

From March 21 to June 2, the Niemeyer Center hosts a large anthological exhibition of the Alicante artist, Juana Francés (Alicante, 1924 – Madrid, 1990), on the occasion of the centenary of her birth. Produced by the Institut València d'Art Modern (IVAM), with the collaboration of Acción Cultural Española, and curated by one of its curators, María Jesús Folch, it is the largest exhibition dedicated to this fundamental artist of 20th century Spanish plastic arts. .

The exhibition brings together pieces from the four Spanish museums and art centers where his work is preserved: the IVAM, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Alicante (MACA), the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (MNCARS) and the Aragonese Institute of Pablo Serrano Contemporary Art and Culture (IAACC), as well as other private collections, among which are the legal heirs of Juana Francés.

Composed of more than a hundred pieces, the exhibition delves into the different fragments of her career, seeking to highlight the figure of Juana Francés as one of the most important Spanish artists of the 20th century, beyond her membership in the El Paso group. , which also included Antonio Saura, Manolo Millares, Rafael Canogar, Luis Feito, Pablo Serrano, Manuel Rivera, Antonio Suárez and Manuel Conde.
