The concert features the World Premiere of a new piece by Cheryl Frances-Hoad, commissioned by Covent Garden Chamber Orchestra, in memory of David Elliott Kelso. This new work is of very personal significance to the orchestra through one of the performers who has made it possible, and we have waited a long time for this moment.
Asier Puga first conducted Covent Garden Chamber Orchestra in March 2017, through the support of AC/E, proving to be an inspired partner in music-making, and CGCO is excited that he will conduct this exciting new work.
Journeys without ending partners Cheryl’s new piece with two strikingly different personal journeys, of identity and integrity. We present outstanding young soloist Fenella Humphreys (BBC Music Magazine 2018 Instrumental Award) in Tchaikovsky’s much loved violin concerto, and the programme is completed by the youthful and idealistic first symphony by Shostakovich.
