Following a successful project at Bergen Kunsthall (Norway), Lighthouse invites Spanish artist Jordi Ferreiro for his first UK commission in July 2019. Ferreiro uses strategies based in experimental education to re-imagine organisations. As part of a phase of redevelopment for Lighthouse considering its role as a one of the longest-running art organisations in Brighton, Ferreiro will work with local audiences to contribute to future imaginings of the building.
This will be Spanish artist Jordi Ferreiro’s first large-scale artist commission in the UK. Ferreiro (Barcelona, 1982) is an artist and educator. His work explores the processes of reception and interpretation of artworks – in both educational and artistic contexts – via the use of performance and public participation, including radio, audio guides, and performative tours. In recent years, Ferreiro has undertaken projects at Whitechapel Gallery, London; Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza, Madrid; Fundació Antoni Tàpies, Barcelona; and ARCO, Madrid – and Bergen Kunsthall, Norway, supported by an AC/E PICE Mobility grant.
