Jena Ibero-American Festival 2014

Jena Ibero-American Festival 2014

The festival, founded 16 years ago, is aimed at all Latin Americans, Portuguese, Spaniards and lovers of Latino culture living in the German city of Jena. This year’s festival is devoted to the five senses and is organised by the “Iberoamérica e.V.” association based in Jena.

AC/E is supporting the participation of the Spanish writer of micropoetry “Ajo” through its mobility grants. She is presenting her work Construyendo brevedades (Constructing brevities), a performance that combines music and poetry and is accompanied by the pianist Katie Fagotti. With this show, “Ajo” aims to move and entertain audiences and immerse them in her world.

"Ajo" is a writer of micropoetry, a singer, an agitator and a name in Madrid counterculture. “Ajo” started out in the mid-80s in the world of punk/pop as a member of the all-girl band Espérame Fuera, No Tengo Fuego. In the 90s she and Javier Colis formed the experimental rock group Mil Dolores Pequeños, bringing out 4 albums and several singles, prominent among which was “De la piel pa’dentro mando yo”, which became an anti-prohibitionist hymn. Since 2001 she has been co-director of the experimental music festival “Experimenta club” (2001-2008), and of the poetry festival “Yuxtaposiciones” (2003-2008), both held in La Casa Encendida in Madrid. As a poet she has published four books: Micropoemas, Micropoemas 2, 3 and 4 and Medidas Micropoéticas. In the past decade she has focused chiefly on poetry writing. Fond of brevity and the urgency to coincide and communicate, she has reinvented herself as a micropoet. During this time her micropoetry has been performed on all kinds of stages in cities all over the world (NYC, Mexico DF, Monterrey, Sao Paulo, Montevideo, Casablanca, Santo Domingo, Managua).
