The purpose of the Karel Halír Society is to make known the figure and work of the brilliant Czech violinist Karel Halíř, who was born in Vrchlabí in 1859 and died in 1909. With the support of AC/E, the Cuarteto Casals is performing two concerts, one in Vrchlabí and the other as part of the Dvořák Festival in Prague. Having won an international competition in London and the Brahms competition in Hamburg, the Cuarteto Casals is hailed as one of the most important Spanish string quartets of its generation and is regularly invited to take part in the world’s most prestigious festivals and cycles of concerts.
Wigmore Hall in London, Carnegie Hall in New York, the Musikverein in Vienna, the Kölner Philarmonie in Cologne, the Cité de la Musique in Paris, the Schubertiade in Schwarzenberg, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Philarmonie in Berlin are just some of the leading venues on the international circuit where it has performed. The Cuarteto Casals has won the National Prize for Music and the Ciutat de Barcelona Prize. It has been invited by the Spanish Royal Household to accompany the King and Queen on diplomatic visits and to play on the Stradivari instruments belonging to the Royal Palace collection. The group has its own concert season at L'Auditori in Barcelona, as well as teaching classes at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya.
