On Friday, May 6, the international professional illustration meeting Irudika presents the work carried out by Bea Lozano and Santiago Colombo during the period of artistic residency between the Citè Internationale de la Bande Dessinée de Angouleme and the resource center of the Bilbaoarte Foundation carried out from last March 5 to May 6, concluding with the opening of this exhibition.
The event will serve to present the illustration that forms the Irudika 2022 poster and the animation that will serve as promotion for the sixth edition of the international meeting. Both works are born from this period of residence and are the work of Bea Lozano, in the case of illustration, and Santiago Colombo in the case of animation. These works will serve as the image of Irudika and will have a long journey in very different formats, media, advertising media, social networks, etc.
Presentation of image and date for the sixth edition of Irudika
The sixth edition of Irudika will take place at Artium Museoa between September 29 and October 1. Three days of meeting between illustration professionals, publishers and agents related to the publishing world. This year, the capacity is once again 125 people in the face-to-face format and the online format is maintained through the irudika.eus platform. This platform allows professionals from the sector to show their work and connect through the Irudika Community, as well as access professional appointments with publishers and agents and all the content, talks and workshops that will take place at Artium.
The Irudika Residencies program can be carried out thanks to the contribution of the Basque Government, Vital Fundazioa and Euskal Irudigileak in the illustration section and Cultural Action of Spain in the animation section. Irudika also has the collaboration of the Angoulême City Council, La Citè Internationale de la Bande Dessinée, the Bilbaoarte Foundation, the Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council and the Araba Provincial Council.
The inauguration was attended by Bea Lozano and Santiago Colombo as selected artists in 2022. Elisabeth Pérez, director of Irudika, Arantxa Ibañez de Opacua, director of Fundación Vital Fundazioa, Andoni Iturbe, Deputy Minister of Culture of the Basque Government, will also take part. Ana del Val, Deputy for Culture of Araba and Igor Salazar, Councilor for Commerce, Training and Employment.
Here is a brief resume of the artists in residence for 2022:
Bea Lozano, Salamanca, 1986. She currently resides in Barcelona, where she studied Illustration at the Massana School. She participated in the Xavier Nogués seminar on experimental printing and in the Meta-Mática workshop on desktop publishing and printing with movable types at L’ Automàtica. In 2017 she obtained a special mention and was selected to be part of the VIII Ibero-American Catalog of Illustration. She was also selected in the Ilustrarte International Biennial 2018. She has recently published, with the Incendi publishing house, her first illustrated book, Above Nogales Below Briars. In 2018 she won the IX edition of Iberoamérica Ilustra. In 2018 she published her first illustrated book “Above nogales below brambles” with the Incendi publishing house, which was awarded two Junceda awards. In 2019 she won the first prize in the Skylight contest.
Santiago Colombo, La Plata, Argentina, 1992. Freelance visual artist, filmmaker, animator and 3D generalist at the international software development company Ohzi Interactive. He has exhibited his works individually and collectively in spaces in Argentina, Latin America and Europe, highlighting: Alicante Museum of Contemporary Art [Spain], Fantoche Festival [Switzerland], Turku Film Festival [Finland], Zagreb AnimaFest [Croatia], Biennial of Young Art [CC Recoleta], Art Basel Buenos Aires, Icona Ionian Contemporary Animation Festival [Greece], International Video Art Festival [CC San Martín], Biennial of Moving Image [Museo UNTREF], Video Babel [Peru], Guerrilla Cartography [USA], Anima Córdoba [Córdoba], BAFICI, Paadman [Iran], among others.
