The International Association of Symphonic Music Festival of Eljem was created in March 2015 with the aim of offering a quality artistic programme in the Roman amphitheater of El Jem, Unesco world heritage since 1979.
AC/E supports, through the PICE program, this 32nd edition by facilitating the participation of the Orquesta Villa de Madrid, the first Spanish orchestra to participate in this Festival, with a programme of classical music by great Spanish composers.
Founded in 1984 by its director Mercedes Padilla, the Chamber Orchestra "Villa de Madrid" has developed an intense concert activity since its first performance at the Teatro Real in Madrid on November 5, 1985. Their vast repertoire ranges from baroque to great works of the 20th century, and they give a special attention to Spanish classical music.
The "Villa de Madrid" Chamber Orchestra is composed of prominent professors and soloists with a career of concertists, reaching an extraordinary artistic level unanimously recognized by critics. Directed by Mercedes Padilla and soloists of the size of Rafael Orozco Esteban Sanchez, Josep Colom, Montserrat Torrent, Ángel Jesús García, Manuel Guillen, Rafael Ramos, Marçal Cervera, Toni García Araque, Antonio Arias, Alvaro Marias, Ana Higueras, José Ortí Victor Ardelean, Alan Kovacs, María Aragón, Jose Luis Rodrigo, Miguel del Barco, Sergey Teslia, Carmen Linares, among others.
