Ópera de Tenerife, an institution whose activity revolves around theatres and festivals all over Europe where it is involved in joint productions and collaboration agreements and exchanges of artists and technicians, has devised for 2013–15 a new programme to modernise its artistic structure.
For this purpose it is holding the first International Singing Competition with wide-ranging international involvement in order to provide participants with a springboard for successful professional development at a high level. It has an international jury whose members hail from a solid artistic and technical background and have vast experience in contests of this kind. It will be chaired by Giovanna Lomazzi, Vicepresident of As.Li.Co (Associazione Lirica e Concertistica Italiana) and its members will be: Ilias Tzempetonidis (Artistic Director, Teatro alla Scala de Milán), Elena Vassilievna Obraztsova (Art Director, Mikhailovsky Theater, St Petersburg and Minister for Cultural Relations of the Russian Opera), Fulvio Macciardi (Artistic Director, Teatro Comunale, Bologna), Toni Gradsack (Director of the Young Singers Project, Salzburg Festival), Giovanna Lomazzi (Vicepresident of As.Li.Co. Associazione Lírica Concertistica Italiana in charge of castings at the Teatro Sociale, Como), Peter Heilker (Director of Opera, St. Gallen Theater), Paulo Abrâo Esper (Director General and Artistic Director of the Cia Ópera Sâo Paulo and Director of Production of the Theatro Säo Pedro), María Orán (Ambassador of Fine Arts of Tenerife, Ópera de Tenerife), Joan Matabosh (Artistic Director of the Gran Teatro del Liceu, Barcelona) and Javier Menéndez (Artistic Director, Ópera de Oviedo).
It is a good opportunity for prestigious professionals of the sector to be auditioned jointly by this group of experts, who are attracting a large number of international candidates, and is also an excellent means of promotion for the Spanish singers who take part.
Three prizes with a monetary value will be awarded, plus a special honorary prize given by the audience. The winner will be chosen by votes from the audience who attend the final. In addition to the monetary prizes, Ópera de Tenerife will be offering, out of contest, parts in the next two seasons’ operas in consonance with the specific requirements for each role and suitable vocal and acting skills.
AC/E is collaborating in this competition through its visitors programme by supporting the participation of the foreign members of the selection panel.
Qualifying rounds: Sunday 22 and Monday 23 September Semi-final: Tuesday 24 September
Final: Thursday 25 September
The final of the first International Singing Competition Ópera de Tenerife will be open to the public in the Sala de Cámera of Tenerife Auditorium. During the event attendees can vote for the special audience award.
