International Conference: Remember war, build peace

450 years have gone by since the Alpujarras War and the subsequent expulsion of the Moorish community from the Kingdom of Granada, which blighted and transformed the Kingdom, but at the same time contributed to make Spain what it is today. This Conference aims to review and reflect on that war, which could be considered an episode of European religious war, and has been explained in history as the clearest example of an ethnic / religious conflict and war as the only alternative to building an ideal society designed by a modern state and counter-reformist Church.

The Conference is organised by the University of Granada, the Granada Alpujarra Municipality Association and the Valle de Lecrin y Alpujarra Historical Studies Centre in collaboration with the Andalusian Regional Government, Almería Council, Acción Cultural Española (AC/E), “El Legado Andalusí” Public Foundation, CajaGrandaFundación, MADOC and the Alhambra and Generalife Trust.

The International Conference also aims to become a platform where people think about war and build peace, with the ultimate goal of reflecting on our history through all experiences and points of view, without any exclusions.
