In Altre Parole 2016. Rassegna di Drammaturgia Internazionale Contemporanea

The main purpose of the festival is to present contemporary texts capable of interpreting the present to theatre audiences of professionals, aficionados and university students. It also sets out to encourage relations between authors, translators and audiences in order to boost the dissemination of ideas, fantasies and views. In addition, meetings with authors, roundtables, lectures and debates on the issues raised by the texts represented take place during the festival.

Since the early days, In Altre Parole has enjoyed a very intense and fruitful relationship with contemporary Spanish playwriting, hosting premiere performances of plays by authors such as Juan Mayorga, Paloma Pedrero, Josep Maria Benet i Jornet, Laila Ripoll, Jordi Galcerán and Juan Carlos Rubio, among others. These playwrights, who are now famous in Italy thanks to the festival, have gradually come to enjoy a constant presence at Italian theatres owing to the unmistakeable quality and innovative nature of their output.

Since the 9th edition (2014), the festival’s schedule has included a specific segment for Spanish-language plays, entitled "Tablas". In 2016, its third year, several authors are taking part in the first phase (autumn 2016: Paco Bezerra, Juan Luis Mira) and the second phase (spring 2017: Herbert Morote, Antonio Tabares, among others) of Tablas.

AC/E is contributing to the festival by supporting the Tablas activity during the autumn of 2016, which includes dramatised readings of a play by Paco Bezerra (El pequeño poni [The little pony]) and one by Juan Luis Mira (Barriga [Belly]), both translated into Italian to aid their dissemination in the country, as well as meetings and roundtables with the guest authors at the Università di Roma and the Instituto Cervantes.
