IlustraTour 2014. International Illustration Festival

IlustraTour 2014. International Illustration Festival

With six years’ experience under its belt, IlustraTour has established itself as an international benchmark event in the world of illustration and illustrated books. This festival, held in Valladolid, features a number of cultural and educational activities such as professional conferences, illustration workshops, exhibitions and competitions.

One of the most attractive activities held in connection with the festival and among those most highly valued by its participants is IlustraTour Network.  Organised from a specialised professional approach, it not only highlights the value of our illustrators’ talent but provides them with new avenues for developing their work. IlustraTourNetwork is the only space for professional networking between illustrators and publishers that is held in Spain: an international event consisting of previously arranged meetings with an established duration, where illustrators can show their work.

This space allows creators to show their work, see how it is received by the sector, and have it published or secure a new commission. The presence of foreign publishers brings Spanish creators into contact with the international market. It also offers publishers the possibility of discovering and selecting talented new artists to add to their portfolios of illustrators. It likewise serves as a meeting place for publishers that is not provided by other sectors fairs where the main focus – as they are more commercially oriented - is the purchase of rights.

These meetings were first held at IlustraTour 2010, with the collaboration of 9 publishers of children’s illustrated books. The 68 publishers, professionals and agents who took part only three years later received 176 illustrators and authors in a total of 903 meetings.

The exponential growth of IlustraTour Network and the excellent results of last year’s event which, thanks to the involvement of AC/E, was attended for the first time by 20 publishers and agents from Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, France, Portugal and the United States and gave IlustraTour Network its greatest impetus so far, have led the festival’s organisers to espouse the goal of boosting the international profile of Spanish illustrators.

With this aim in mind, AC/E is collaborating through its PICE/visitors programme by supporting the participation in this year’s event of leading publishers belonging to the main international illustration markets (such as the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Sweden and the USA), as well as those with good prospects of expansion (such as Italy Denmark, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Chile and, India).
