IFOA 2016, Toronto’s International Festival of Authors

Since its inception in 1974, Toronto’s International Festival of Authors has presented over 9,000 writers from over 100 countries, including 21 Nobel Laureates. The first edition of the Festival took place in 1980 and featured just eighteen authors over six nights. This year, IFOA will hold the 37th edition of the Festival. Event formats range from stand-alone reading/interviews, to groups of authors reading and taking part in panel discussions.

The Festival Hosts Spanish authors as part of the Found In Translation events with the aim of bringing together literary talent from around the world and to provide authors and publishing professionals with a forum for the exchange of ideas.

Found in Translation is a program that runs within the regular IFOA programming schedule. The project is meant to highlight contemporary literature by authors from around the world. Entering its seventh year, the program pays tribute to the art of literary translation and features readings, round tables and interviews. By focusing on the importance of making literature available in multiple languages, audiences have the chance to analyze the effect on the reader and gain exposure to emerging international authors. The inclusion of contemporary Spanish authors allows to increase the general awareness, appreciation and enthusiasm of contemporary Spanish literature, especially the work of up-and-coming authors.
